Abstract
403,752. Fluid-pressure servomotors. BAILEY MOTOR CO., 1050, Ivanhoe Road, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Dickey, P. S. ; 2226, East 107th Street, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.) July 14, 1932, No. 19935. Convention date, July 16, 1931. Addition to 385,831. [Class 135.] In apparatus for controlling the feed valve 58 of a boiler or the like in accordance with the relationship between the rate of steam delivery and the rate of water supply, and with the boiler water level, as described in the parent Speci. fication, the feed valve is actuated at a distance in accordance with the position of the control member through self - synchronous electric motors. A pilot valve on the control member 69, Fig. 2, controls the passage of pressure fluid through a sleeve 75 to one end or other of a piston 76 which rotates a shaft 71 carrying the rotor of the transmitting motor 72. The sleeve 75 is continuously rotated by a worm 77 and drives the pump 78 supplying the pressure fluid. The shaft 73 of the rotor of the receiving motor 74 operates a pilot valve 80, Fig. 3, controlling the supply of pressure fluid, such as oil, to a piston 85 on the spindle of the feed valve 88. The pilot valve is rotated continuously by the pump 79 supplying the pressure fluid to the piston. A rack 89 on the upper end of the valve spindle meshes with teeth on and rotates the stator of the receiving motor, thus repositioning the pilot valve after operation of the feed valve. A clutch member 92 is normally held out of engagement with valve spindle by the oil pressure in bellows 83 connected to the pump 79. When the oil pressure falls below a predetermined value, the clutch member is released and locks the valve spindle. The valve may be opened by a hand-wheel 17a having a screwed spindle 95 engaging the upper end of the valve spindle. Rotation of the hand-wheel 17a rotates an arm 97 having inclined teeth 99 which ride up on mating teeth at the top of a shaft 100 and opens a valve 102 across the ports leading to the opposite sides of the piston. At the same time, a collar on the shaft depresses the clutch lever 93 and releases the clutch member, and a mercury switch 103 is tilted to open the circuit of the motor driving the pump 79.
