Abstract

402,935. Speed governors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Dec. 5, 1932, No. 34459. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1931. [Class 57.] A speed governing system may be used as a system wherein a degree of irregularity is present, static governing, or wherein when a variation in speed occurs, the speed is returned to its original value after a governing action, isodromic governing. Fig. 1 shows a governor 2 controlling a valve 1 through a control valve 4 and power cylinder 3. A motor 19 engages the sleeve 5 which is connected through links and a spring buffer 10 to the link 27. The rod 14 is in threaded engagement with the sleeve 13 and the rod 12 slides within the sleeve 13 but may be clamped in any position by the screw 20. For static governing the screw 20 is released and the rod 12 slides idly within the sleeve 13. The motor 19 is employed for adjusting the sleeve 5 according to the load which the machine is required to take. For isodromic governing, the screw 20 is engaged and the resistance starter 29 put in the circuit of motor 19. When a governing action occurs movement of the rod 9 so controls the motor 19 that the sleeve 5 is moved in a direction that in the return movement, the valve 4 has to travel further to centre the ports. The motor 16 is employed for varying the speed at which the governor shall act. In a modification the sleeve 5 is secured to a spindle actuated by one motor and two screw 4 clutches are provided, one being engaged for static governing and the other for isodromic governing. Fig. 3 shows the spring buffer replaced by a valve 58 and sleeve 59 which during static governing causes the motor 16 to operate to cause the sleeve 59 to follow the valve 58. During isodromic governing the valve 58 controls the motor 19 and the motor 16 then functions as a speed adjustment. In a modification the valve 58 is mounted upon an extension of the governor sleeve. A further modification shows the electric motors replaced by hydraulic motors. Fig. 6 shows the governing systems applied to a fluid governor wherein a pump 108 is driven by the prime mover and a part of the stream flows through the " quantity " valve 113 and the remainder past the throttle valve 110, the united streams passing to the " pressure " valve 116. During static running the speed adjustment is made by the motor 126 and the pilot valve 127 actuates the motor 129 to cause the sleeve 128 to follow movements of the valve 127 due to movements of the valve 116 to maintain constant pressure in the space 114. For isodromic governing the pilot valve controls the motor 126 to cause a slight adjustment so shat the speed of the prime mover shall be the same after the action as before. Speed adjustment is then carried out by the motor 129.
