Abstract
402,848. Treating grain ; food for animals. SATAKE, E., 1, 5-Chome, Yanagidori, Nishinari-ku, Osaka, Japan. June 14,1932, No. 16827. [Classes 5 (ii) and 58.] A method of treating kaoliang comprises steeping in tepid water until the bran and inside skin become slightly soft, removing it from the water, mixing therewith dried bran of kaoliang and stirring it, so that each grain becomes coated with bran, removing the excess bran, for example, by means of a winnower, and passing the coated grain between a fixed wire net and moving rubber face of a decorticating machine whereby the bran, embryo bud and inside skin are removed. The bran is used as cattle food, the inside skin as raw material for cattle cake and other animal foods and the embryo bud as a source of kaoliang oil. The kaoliang is first husked and sorted and part of the bran obtained from the treatment is dried for use in the treatment. A decorticating machine for use in the treatment comprises a member 1 having a spirally grooved rubber lined concave face 2 and rotated about a vertical axis. A convex wire net member 8 is supported adjacent the face 2 by springs 7 on a vertically adjustable frame 6. The machine also comprises a hopper 9, a discharge shoot 16 for the bran, and a trough 10 whence the grain is swept by a brush 15 into a discharge shoot 11.
