[Class 100 (ii).] Stencil-printing apparatus ; inking-apparatus.-In a rotary duplicator of the kind comprising a perforated stencil carrying drum serving as an ink container, a compartment is provided under the leading end of the stencil for the purpose of collecting surplus ink. Also, a similar compartment may be provided at the trailing end, and a guard ring covering a comparatively large opening may be provided in each side wall of the drum whereby ink collecting on the side walls is retained in the drum while at the same time the amount of ink present can be observed, the cleaning out of the drum is facilitated, and access of air is allowed. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the cylinder comprises a D-shaped drum secured by screws 16a to the side members 12, 13 of a cylinder, the drum comprising a flat side 1, a perforated part-cylinder 2, and end walls 10, 11. Flared guard rings 20, 21 are provided covering openings 16, 17 in the walls 10, 11, these openings coinciding with openings 18, 19 in the members 12, 13. An ink cloth 4 is secured at the trailing end to pins 8 and at the leading end to a rotatable pin-bar 27, a ratchet 30 and pawl 31 being provided to hold the bar when the cloth has been stretched taut. The cloth passes through openings 7, 25 in the drum, and partitions 22 are provided to prevent escape of ink through the openings and to form compartments 23, 26 in which ink exuding from the ends of the cloth is collected. A stencil 6 is secured at 5 to the side 1 and is free at the trailing end where a leather cover flap 24 is provided. In a modification, the compartments 23, 26 are combined into one. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the form shown in Fig. 6 (Cancelled) wherein a recess 36 receives ink squeezed from the trailing end of the cloth 4 during the operation of the machine, tubes 38 being provided to return the ink to an annular compartment 38a. A rail 37 is provided over the recess, and a leather flap 39 overlaps the end of the cloth. The stencil 6 is secured at each end by clamps 34, 35, and a gauze sheet 40 is interposed between the drum and the cloth. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
