Abstract

259,545. Dick Co., A. B., (Assignees of Brasseur, E. J.). Oct. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Stencilling; inking-apparatus. - The printing- cylinder of a rotary duplicator is constructed of two exterior walls 150, 151, Fig. 3, provided with flanges 152, 153 to which are secured the flanges 156, 157 of the end walls 154, 155 of a sealed ink compartment, which includes a perforated diaphragm 158 extending part way round the cylinder, the remainder being filled in by means of a segmental plate 160 and by a supplementary frame 195, 196 covering the plate and removably secured to the exterior walls. The side edges of the diaphragm 158 and the plate 160 are secured between the flanges, the joints being made leakproof. The joint between the longitudinal edges of the plate 160 and the edges of the diaphragm 158 provide bevelled edges 164, Fig. 1, against which the ink pad and the stencil sheet are clamped by means of the frame 195, 196. This frame is provided with side flanges 199, Fig. 2, which rest on the flanges 152, 153 and have flat parts 200 carrying slidable tongues 201 arranged to engage between horizontal parts 208. 209 of the flanges 152, 153 and to be moved under and clamped against the parts 208 by means of nuts 205. Perforations in the parts 200 engage pins 211 fixed to the parts 208. Ink is contained in a trough 168, Figs. 1 and 3. fixed on a shaft 165 about which the stencil cylinder rotates. One end of the shaft projects beyond the cylinder and carries a finger 171 with which is interlocked the end of a lever 172 normally spring-pressed into a notch 176 in the frame of the machine. Besides locking the trough 168 in the normal position. the lever 172 serves to turn the shaft 165 and so pour ink on to the diaphragm, and also indicates the position of the trough. Behind the diaphragm is arranged a grid 180 for distributing the ink. The ink pad consists of a sheet of fabric secured at each end to an attachment plate 183 by bending over the edge of the plate with the end of the sheet in between and then again doubling over the plate. The plates 183 are engaged in recesses at the edges of the diaphragm or behind rods arranged therein and are secured by latches 189. The ink-pad may be reversed end for end. Specifications 243.071, 259,172, and 259.531 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also means for frictionally locking the cylinder against rotation consisting of a stud carried by a spring-pressed lever normally held in a retracted position. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, and is described in Specification 259,531.
