Abstract

401,961. Treating photographic prints. GEVAERT PHOTO-PRODUCTEN NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP, Oude-God, near Antwerp, Belgium.-(Assignees of Gevaert Werke Ges.; 9, Lutzowstrasse, Berlin.) April 6, 1933, Nos. 10322 and 10323. Convention dates, Sept. 16, 1932 and Nov. 3, 1932. [Class 98 (ii).] In order to minimize the loss of clarity in photographic prints during drying, the prints are treated with a toning solution in such concentration or for so short a period that no visible toning is produced. The toning substance may be a compound of gold, platinum, palladium, sulphur, selenium or tellurium, and alkali seleno-sulphates are specially suitable. The substance may be incorporated in the light sensitive layer, applied on the back of the support or added to the developer, washing water or fixing bath, or a separate bath may be used. In one example, a bath consisting of 40 grams of ammonium thiocyanate and 40 c.c. of a 1 % solution of gold chloride in a litre of water may be used. In another example 0.1 grams of sodium selenite are added to 1 litre of fixing solution.
