[Class 87 (ii).] A machine for forming embossed articles of dough, marzipan &c., of the type in which a die is raised into co-operation with an extrusion press to emboss the material and is then lowered to release it, has means for severing the extruded end whereby it falls onto the mould element or die and means for rotating or inverting the mould element to deliver the severed portion face upwards. Material is forced by feed-rolls 30a from a hopper 30 through an extrusion nozzle 3. The hopper may oscillate about the axis of one of the feed-rolls and the nozzle 3 is adapted to yield to the embossing element 9a which has two or more mould faces 9b and is carried on a table 4. The table 4 is oscillated by the cam 6a to bring the mould face 9b into cooperation with the nozzle 3 and the element 9a is intermittently rotated by a pawl-andratchet mechanism from the crank 17 to deliver the moulded articles which have been severed by the knife 13 on to the table 4. A conveyer band 26 retains the articles in the mould elements during inversion and is spaced from the element 9a by distance strips 29a. In a modification, Fig. 7, the embossing element comprises a plate 39 adapted to be reciprocated along a track 41 by a crank rod 42. During reciprocation the element 39 is rotated by a rack and pinion 45 to deliver the article. In a further modification, Fig. 13, the mould element 50 is fixed and the moulded pieces are pushed by a brush 65 on to a delivery conveyer 56 having a roughened surface or small projections. A belt 61 may cooperate with the conveyer 56 and a brush 71 may apply yolk of egg to the conveyer 56 to make it sticky. The extrusion dies 3 may have honey-combed openings as shown in Fig. 11.
