400,303. Dividing by fusion; engraving. HANCOCK & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., Aurelia Road, Croydon, and OAKLEY, E. C. F., 592, London Road, Thornton Heath, both in Surrey. May 5, 1932, No. 13010. [Classes 83 (iii) and 83 (iv).] A tracer mechanism for metal-cutting and like copying-machines employing an engraving tool or burner consists of a serrated driven roller pressed into contact with a templet by a secondary templet tracking the first, through a cone freely rotatable on the collar spindle. The driving spindle 10 of the tracer of an oxygen jet cutting machine, which may be driven by electric, clockwork or other power and may be supported on a hinged frame or compound slide, is connected by a longitudinal slot 13 and pin 12 to a shank 6, which is pressed down by a spring 4. To the shank is secured the spindle 3 of the serrated tracer roller 1 engaging the templet P and also a nipple 7 which is separated by ball bearings 8 from a freely rotatable cone 2 engaging the edge of a secondary template S. The upper edge of the templet S may be higher than that of the templet P, or may be coplanar therewith, in which case the templet P is bevelled, as shown at 17, Fig. 2. The weight of the tracer mechanism may be used instead of the spring 4 for pressing the roller 1 into contact with its templet, or the secondary templet may be pressed upwardly by springs. The templet, may consist of wood fibre, aluminium, copper, brass, steel and the like.
