Abstract
400,037. Controlling motor vehicles. TOMLINSON, H. W., 76, High Street, Marylebone, London. Jan. 23,1933, No. 2094. [Class 79 (v).] Means for preventing reverse rotation of the propeller shaft, and therefore running back of the vehicle, are put out of action when the reverse gear is engaged. The shaft 2 is normally prevented from running in the reverse direction (arrow B) by means of a detent 31 pivoted at 20 to a fixed member and adapted to engage pawls 13 when they project, at low speeds, beyond an annulus 3 on the shaft 2. When the reverse gear is engaged a rod 35 is moved and a cone on this rod engages a hole 33 in the detent 31 and moves the end of the detent out of the path of the pawls.
