[Class 6 (i).] Apparatus for distributing lime, manure, mixtures of manure and seeds, &c. comprises a hopper 1 adapted for mounting upon or incorporating in a vehicle or implement and having its two longer sides converging towards the bottom, a rotary spindle 2 extending longitudinally through the lower part of the hopper, a series of right and left-hand wire helices 5, 6 mounted alternately end to end on the spindle to rotate therewith and co-operating in pairs to convey the material to the spaces between the two helices of each pair, and outlet openings 7 in the bottom of the hopper vertically below the spaces. The spindle 2 carries a gear wheel 4 which is driven from a travelling wheel or other rotating part. The openings 7 may be formed in a tube 8 within which is a tube or round rod 9 having corresponding through openings 10. The tube 9 is angularly adjustable by a handle 11 for adjusting the effective areas of the openings 7. The helices have radially bent ends 12 secured in radial holes in the spindle 2 by cross pins. Each pair of helices may be made from a single length of wire with a loop 14 at the junction, which loop sweeps across the corresponding opening 7 at each revolution. Alternatively the helices may be made separately and arranged so that the radial ends of both pass across the outlet at each revolution. A boss 15, Fig. 4, having radial projections 16 may be mounted between the two helices of a pair and may be driven by the engagement of the loop 14 with one of the projecting arms 16. The spindle may be steadied at intermediate points by upper bearings 17. Broadcasting or drilling appliances may be mounted below the outlet openings 7.
