Abstract
409,659. Distributers for manures, seeds, &c. BOWDEN, W. E., Broadmead Iron Works, Bovey Tracey, South Devon. Oct. 24, 1932, No. 29740. [Class 6 (i).] An agricultural machine for distributing manure, seed &c. comprises in combination, a hopper with one or more tubular members extending along the bottom thereof in the upper and lower walls of which an aperture or a set of apertures is formed substantially opposite to one another and establishing communication with the exterior transversely through the tube, ejector means extending through said tubular member, and means to effect automatically relative oscillation, with or without reciprocation, between the ejector means and the tubular member to agitate material passing from the hopper and to control its discharge through the lower apertures. The hopper 1 is carried by road wheels 3, one of which is keyed to the axle 2. A tube 5 extends along the bottom of the hopper 1 and is provided with two sets of opposite holes 6, 7, the tube 5 being rotatable by means of a lever 8 so that either set of holes 6, 7 may communicate with the hopper. The tube may also be rotated to close all the holes. A helically twisted ejector bar 11 extends through the tube 5 and is oscillated by a quadrant 13 engaging a pinion 12 on the bar. The quadrant 13 is oscillated by the ground wheel 3 through cam mechanism described in Specification 409,673. An agitator in the form of a bar 28 is mounted in the hopper above the tube 5 and is arranged to slide in guides. The bar 28 has a number of projections 31 and may carry an auxiliary bar 32 having stirrup shaped elements 33. The agitator is reciprocated by a lever 36 which engages a cam 39 on the axle 2. The ejector bar 11 may be coupled by a double armed lever to the lever 36 so as to be reciprocated in the opposite sense to the agitator 28, the teeth 15 of the quadrant 13 being long enough to permit this. The pinion 12 may be oscillated by a reciprocating rack instead of the quadrant 13. In a modification, Fig. 6, the hopper is divided into two parts by a partition 41 and material is transferred from the main hopper 1<a> into the other part 1<b> under an adjustable gate 42 by a toothed reciprocated bar 28". In another modification, Fig. 7, both wheels 3 may be loosely mounted on the axle 2 and the disc 26 carrying the driving cams may be coupled to the wheel 3 by a clutch device comprising a spring controlled catch 42 which engages teeth 44 on the wheel or is held out of engagement by a hooked portion 45 as shown. The ejector 11 may alternatively be formed of a bar of any desired cross-section or of a chain or brush. The agitator 28 may also be in the form of a brush and may be rotary. The tube 5 may be of any cross-section and may be in two halves which provide an adjustable slot between them and may be oscillated with or without the ejector bar. Specification 391,962 also is referred to.
