Abstract

An agent for preserving textiles, furs, &c. from moths and other insects comprises a water-insoluble vegetable alkaloid compound produced by the reaction of crystallized quassin and quinine in the presence of hydrobromic acid and hydrogen peroxide. The reaction is slow, and is carried out in the cold. Oleic acid or a similar fatty acid may be used in place of hydrobromic acid.
