Abstract

398,979. Buttonhole-sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Singer, Clydebank, CORRALL, H., St. Alban, Helensburgh, and HEGGIE, J., 7, Drumry Road, Clydebank, both in Dumbartonshire. July 5, 1932, No. 18963. [Class 112.] Means for cutting button-holes comprise an actuating cam 7, a latching mechanism 30, 22 for disconnecting the cutter 17 from the actuating means, and a pneumatic cap 46 for damping the return movement of the cutter. The disconnecting means comprises a latch arm 30 which engages a stud 22 on a lever 20 and couples the lever 20 to the lever 26 for the cutting operation. An extension 33 of the latch arm 30 engages the arm 35 of a bell crank trip lever. The other arm of the lever engages a cam 38 on the feed-wheel shaft 16. On the completion of the sewing operation the cam 38 releases the trip lever which is pulled over by a spring and brings the latch arm 30 into engagement with the stud 22. The damping means comprises a cap 46 with apertures 47. Specification 18153/03, [Class 112, Sewing &c.] is referred to.
