Abstract

398,354. Piles. TAYLOR, W., 35, Osborne Crescent, Tweedmouth, Berwick-on- Tweed. Oct. 20. 1932, No. 29313. [Class 68 (ii).] A pile of the kind having a longitudinal passage for conducting pressure water to its lower end or point, the entrance to the passage being situated immediately below the head of the pile and in one side thereof and being provided with means for connecting to the passage the end of a flexible hose-pipe for the supply of the pressure water is characterized in that the pile is formed with a longitudinal projection and a corresponding longitudinal groove adapted to engage and be engaged by the groove and projection of abutting piles to form longitudinal interlocking joints which permit the abutting piles to be driven in at an angle one to another. As shown in Fig. 4, the pile has a central longitudinal passage a extending from the inclined entrance b immediately below the head of the pile to within a short distance of the lower end, where it forks to form exits in the pointed lower end. A hosepipe f may be connected to the entrance b by a coupling g having on one side a projection h engaging a recess j in the entrance b and at the opposite side a catch k engaging a projection m on the pile. Alternatively the entrance b may he extended outwardly to an externally threaded portion b<1>, Fig. 5. The pile has on one side a rounded longitudinal projection n, Fig. 3, and on the other side with a corresponding groove p, adapted to interlock respectively with the grooves and projections of adjacent piles. The pile may be of steel, or comprise an outer shell of steel fitted with an internal pipe, the annular space being filled with concrete. Tips r on the head of the pile serve for withdrawing, and a raised portion s on the head receives the driving blow. The pile may be made in longitudinal sections and the head section used for driving the successive sections, and the head section may be removed from the driven pile and used for driving other piles.
