Abstract

397,158. Propellers. LAVAUD, D. S. DE, 179, Rue de la Pompe, Paris. Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31573. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1930. [Class 114.] In an automatically variable-pitch propeller in which the blades 1a, 1b are pivoted on axes 5 inclined to the propeller shaft 22, the neutral fibres of the blades being inclined to said axes, and resilient means tend to return the blades to initial pitch position, counterweights 16 pivoted on the hub are connected by links 18 to the blades and tend by their centrifugal action to rotate the blades in opposition to the resilient means. The latter comprises torsion rods 5 secured at their opposite ends 6, 7 to the blades and hub respectively. Tubes 11 rigid with the blade sockets and mounted in bearings 12, 13 are provided with abutments 14 to prevent lengthening of the rods 5. The initial pitch position may be adjusted by removing nuts 25 and rotating the rods 5. The neutral fibres of the blades when extended do not pass through the axis of rotation of the propeller.
