Abstract
397,147. Making keys. HARRISON & SONS, Ltd., H. and HARRISON, F. H., Villiers Street, Willenhall, Staffordshire. Feb. 18, 1932, No. 4810. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Punching; shear blades.-Keys are made from metal strip H having a rib h on each face near the mid line of the strip, by feeding the strip continuouslv to a machine having a pair of blanking tools which blank out a substantially complete key including the steps in the key bit at each operation. The upper tool carries punches b, c and replaceable punches a<5>, a<2>, g<1> and the die has three sinkings. On the downstroke of the head the punch c forms the hole t<1> and the punch b forms a notch g which co-operates with a pivoted detent D for positioning the strips for the blanking operation. The front end of the strip engages a projection d<1> and moves the detent to engage the notch g and arrest the bit under the punches a<5>, a<2>, g<1>. The punch g<1> is built up of plates. On the next downward stroke the punch a<5> blanks out the handle, the punch a<2> the shank and the punch g<1> the bit. The key is forced through the lower die and the waste remains in strip form.
