Abstract

396,863. Centrifugal machines. CLAPHAM, E. L., The Southdown Laundry, Ltd., Kingston Road, Raynes Park, London. April 11, 1932, No. 10312. [Class 23.] The cover C of a centrifugal extractor H or the like is locked by a spring operated bolt b which can be withdrawn by means of a handle d operating through a trigger device which is tripped constantly while the cage is rotating so that the movement of the handle is rendered ineffective unless the machine is at rest. A bracket adjacent the hinge of the cover C supports a base plate s carrying three rods a, b, c parallel to the hinge pin. The rod c carries the handle d and slides axially in the locking rod b ; it is returned to its normal position by a spring. The rod b engages the flat underside of a cam b<2> projecting from the hinge at right-angles to the cover. A stud m projects from the rod c and passes , freely through slots in the rod 5 to engage triggers or pawls k, l pivoted to the bolt and base plate lugs respectively. The control spindle a has arms p, q, r ; the first p carries a roller n to engage the stud m, the second q engages the tails of the triggers k, l and the third r is connected by the rod v to the cam u which is rotated by the pulley P from the machine. While the machine is rotating, the arm r is oscillated bv the cam u so that the connection between the handle d and locking bolt b is continually broken by the movement of the detent k. When the machine is stopped the bolt can be pulled back until the detent l slips over the stud m. On re-starting the machine the detent l is lifted by the movement of the arm r and the spring e moves the bolt b to its locking position. The bolt mechanism may be interlocked with the belt shifting mechanism so that the operating fork F is locked with the belt on the loose pulley when the machine cover is open.
