Abstract

396,793. Electric clocks. HOUSMAN, R. F. A., 11, Altyre Road, Croydon. Feb. 10, 1932, No. 3968. [Class 139.] In a clock system wherein a number of secondary clocks are operated. by periodic electric impulses from a master clock, the pendulum and time keeping mechanism of the latter are replaced by a synchronous motor geared to the usual half minute contact mechanism. Alternatively the motor a, b drives through worm or spur gearing c, d, e a wheel f rigid with a cam g, which at halfminute intervals releases a lever h pivoted at h2 causing a plunger j to depress a mercury column k1 whereby mercury is forced over the weir l to close the impulse circuit through the secondary clocks o, p, q. The circuit remains closed for a time dependent on the rate of leakage of the mercury past the plunger j, and may alternatively energize release magnets for driving mechanisms of the secondary clocks.
