Abstract
396,788. Cigarettemaking machines. MILLER, C. W., 2, Am Hochwald, Weisser Hirsch, and UNIVERSELLE CTGARETTENMASCHINEN FABRIK J. C. MILLER & CO., 48, Zwickauer-Strasse, both in Dresden, Germany. Feb. 5, 1932, No. 3520. [Class 130.] Tobacco is fed or placed in a number of containers, in which it is seasoned and stored, after which it is fed directly to a conveyer leading to a cigarette-making machine. As shown in Fig. 2, cut tobacco is taken from boxes 1 and spread uniformly in containers formed by walls 41, 42 and by conveyer belts 2, 3, 4 respectively.. The tobacco remains on the belts 2, 3 or 4 until it has assumed a uniform temperature or moisture content, and the containers may be provided with covers to facilitate the seasoning. After seasoning, the tobacco is fed to a cigarette-making machine which is located in a separate room. By closing a switch on the cigarette-making machine, a shaft 9 is set in rotation by an electric motor 15, and current is interrupted to solenoids which actuate slides 17 to close hoppers 16 ; also magnets 13 are energized which, through levers 11, close clutches 10 driving the shafts 6 over which the belts 2, 3, 4 pass. A star wheel and a brush assist the discharge of the tobacco into the hoppers 16, from which the tobacco is conveyed pneumatically to the cigarette-making machine. While tobacco is being fed from one belt, fresh tobacco is placed on another belt. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 4 and 5, tobacco is supplied through a pipe line 26 to a container 25 and is discharged through an airlock 27 on to a conveyer belt 29, dust and the air used for the conveyance of the tobacco passing through a conduit 28. The belt 29 is formed as an endless belt which can be driven in either direction, and is mounted on a sliding carriage so that the tobacco is discharged from the belt 29 into one of the containers formed by belts 35 .. 38 and side walls 30, which are lined with sheet zinc. After charging, the top of the container is covered until the tobacco is discharged by setting the belt 35, 36, 37 or 38 into motion and allowing the tobacco to fall on to a conveyer belt 31 leading to a distribution place 32, where operators throw the tobacco into hoppers 33 leading to the cigarette-making machines.
