[Clasa 60.] In hand-held grinding machines employing a self-contained electric motor 2, the spindle bearing sleeve 10 is surrounded by a sleeve 8 of heat-insulating material forming a hand grip for guiding the tool 6. The sleeve 8 is split at 12 and held on the bearing sleeve 10 by a clip 9 resting in an annular groove 11, or alternatively a number of slots 12 may be provided and the sleeve 8 held by friction only. The sleeve 8 covers the chuck 15 and has slots 14 for the passage of air for cooling the spindle bearings and may also be fluted for this purpose. Conical projections on the interior surface of the sleeve 8 engage the conical exterior of the sleeve 10. The motor drives the tool spindle through a belt 4 and a further handle 7 in the form of a pistol-grip projects from the casing 1.
