Abstract

396,221. Railway bank wagons. PUGH, J. D., 401, Title Annex Building, Baltimore, U.S.A. July 15, 1932, No. 20117. Convention date, July 21, 1931. [Class 103 (iv).] A transportable container for molten material, such as metal or slag, which may serve also as a ladle or mixer, comprises a preferably cylindrical body supported on trucks and having a discharge spout communicating with an outlet near the bottom of the container, the outlet of the spout being adapted to be raised. or lowered relatively to the container body. The spout may also serve as an inlet. In the form shown, the container 10 communicates through an aperture 40 in an annular plug 39 with a spout 35 rotatably mounted in a bracket 44 and in a flange 30 formed in the end wall 12 of the container, pulverized refractory packing 42, Fig. 4, being provided between the flange 30 and the surface of the spout lining 34. The spout is operated by gearing 53, 55, which may be driven by a motor 56. The spout is provided with a cover 51 and with baffles 66 which serve as skimmers during pouring. A clean.cut hole 14 is closed by a plug 15, Fig. 6, mounted at 20 on arms 18 movable about a vertical axis 19 and secured by a hand-wheel 25, sleeve 24, and screwed rod 22 mounted at 23. The container is mounted on a number of trucks, preferably the end trucks only being pivoted to the container body. At each of the intermediate trucks a bracket 78 is provided having a horizontal lower face which slides in a channel-shaped block 76 pivoted to the bolster 75 of the truck. A modification consists of a relatively short container supported on two trucks and provided with means for engagement by lifting-hooks for transport as a ladle.
