Abstract

396,141. Packing sliver into rotating or oscillating cans &c. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J. and' MACKIE, J. P., Albert Foundry, Belfast. Feb. 29, 1932, No. 6063. [Class 120 (iii).] Sliver delivered into rotating or oscillating cans 1, Fig. 1, or on to rotating or oscillating tables 11, Fig. 4, is packed by means of a plate mounted above the base and prevented from turning therewith but free to move vertically so that the sliver is progressively squeezed between the base and the packing plate. The plate is shaped so that different points therein are situated at different heights above the base, e.g. the plate comprises a helical portion 3 and two flat portions 4, 5, Fig. 3, being mounted on a rod 6 slidable within a sleeve 7, Fig. 1. A latch may be provided to hold the plate in its uppermost position. The plate 13, Fig. 4, comprises a helical portion 14 and a flat toe 15 and is fixed to the stationary shield 12. Where the can or table is oscillated a double helical plate, Fig. 6, is provided.
