Abstract

395,071. Dry closets ; tipping-basin closets ; indicating liquid-levels. JACKSON, E. L., 34, High Holborn, London, and CHRISTOPHER, S. A., 52, Meadway, High Barnet, Hertfordshire. Feb. 20, 1932, No. 5158. [Class 26.] In a closet of the kind having a vessel to receive the sewage when a pan or other primary receiver is tilted or otherwise moved, and means for delivering a quantity of liquid on to the bottom of the pan when the latter is moved from normal position to the sewage-delivery position and back again, the said means are rigidly secured to the pan. The pan 24, Figs. 1 and 3, which comprises a base-member 23 having a bib 26 extending through a gap 25 in the wall 24, is secured to a hinged seat 1 resting upon a casing 3, and the secondary vessel 7 rests upon a vessel 13 with which it communicates by an overflow device 8 closable by a stopper 9. In one form, a second wall 27 shaped as shown, extends about the wall 24 forming a second chamber 28 communicating with the pan by means of an aperture 29 opposite the gap 25. An apertured cylindrical chamber 32 arranged with its axis parallel to the axis about which the pan is mounted, communicates with the chamber 28 by means of pipes 31 carried by the pan, and in the normal positions of the parts, is immersed in the liquid in the vessel 7, a perforated shield 11 preventing the entrance of solid matter. When the seat is tilted the contents of the chamber 32 are discharged into the lower portion of the chamber 28, and on the return of the seat, enter the pan through the aperture 29 and cover the base 23 to a height determined by the upturned edge 30 of the bib 26. In another form, Fig. 5, when the seat is raised, liquid enters chambers 37 carried by the pan from a chamber 33 formed about the pan ; when the seat is lowered, this liquid enters the pan by way of pipes 40, 41. In another form, Fig. 8, the chamber 33 supplies the pan bv pipes 38, a chamber 39 and pipes 43. The height of the liquid within the overflow-vessel 13 is indicated by a float 15, Fig. 1, or by the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, 22 being a floatcontrolled indicator operating in a hole in the fixed portion of the closet-seat. The vessels 7, 13 may be arranged side-by-side, or on the same level or alternatively, the vessel 13 may be dispensed with, the vessel 7 discharging directly into a drain. Specification 358,544 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
