Abstract
394,798. Insulators. ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION, Ltd., Kingsbury Road, Islington, and COX, E. N. R., 12, Bradley Gardens; Ealing, both in London. May 21, 1932, No. 14444. [Class 36.] To increase the length of the flash-over and leakage paths of an insulator of the pin-and-cap type, an annular wall, concentric with the head of the insulator body and extending upwardly to at least the top of the head, is formed on the upper face of the shed of the insulator, the wall being spaced from the head by a deep annular channel into which is cemented the depending flange of the cap. Fig. 1 shows a suspension insulator comprising a head 1, a shed 2, and petticoats 3. A cap 6 having a depending flange 6a is cemented to the head 1 and is surrounded by an annular wall 7 which is formed with a corrugated outer face 9 and which is secured to a flat seating 7a on the shed 2. The space 8 between the wall 7 and the flange 6a is filled with cement or bitumen, a lining 11 of bitumen preferably being previously applied to the inner surface of the wall 7. Fig. 2 shows a modified construction, wherein the wall 7 is formed integrally with the shed 2 and is not corrugated. The insulator is formed without petticoats.
