Abstract

393,657. Television. ELECTRICAL RESEARCH PRODUCTS, Inc., 195, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Gray, F.; 243, West 101st Street, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 12, 1931, No. 34481. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1930. [Class 40 (iii).] Signals corresponding to different elemental areas of an object 1, Fig. 1, are applied simultaneously to a plurality of moving strip light sources 21, 25. Optical images of the object 1 are swept over apertures 6, 7, 8 in front of light sensitive cells 10, 11, 12 by a spiral of lenses 4 in a rotating disc 3. From the first half of the spiral, lines of the top half of the object fall on the cell 10, and lines of. the bottom half on the cell 11, and from the second half 6f the spiral, lines of the .top half of the object fall on the cell 11, and lines of the bottom half on the cell 12. Currents from the cells 10, 12 are transmitted over a channel 14, and from the cell 11 over a channel 16, and, at a receiver R are distributed to respective sets 21, 25 of linear light sources which rotate in a drum 22 behind radial slots in a rotating, disc 29. The receiver is synchronized as described in Specification 376,309. The light sources may be on the surface of the drum instead of behind slots 28, and the slots in the disc 29 may be replaced by two spirals of apertures, Fig. 4 (not shown). The apparatus can be used for single-channel transmission by opening switches 105, 106. In the transmitter shown in Fig. 5, a slowly revolving ring of lenses 35 sweep optical images across two rapidly rotating rings of apertures 37, 38 in front of cells 40, 41. In the application to kinema films, the movement due to the lenses is replaced by direct movement of the film Fig. 7 (not shown). As shown in Fig. 10. the object is explored in two sections bv two sets 6R .. 69 of oppositely pitched spirals of apertures, and the prisms 64, 65 are moved by a cam 61 to follow the position of the lines being scanned and refract the light to separate cells, Fig. 8 (not shown). At the receiver two strip light sources are moved similarly behind two sets of radial slots in a rotating disc.
