Abstract
393,512. Steam traps. CRANE, Ltd., 45, Leman Street, London.-(Crane Co. ; 836, S. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A.) Dec. 16, 1932, No. 35714. [Class 64 (ii).] In a steam trap having a valve 4 operated through the intermediary of a lever 10 pivoted to an open-bottomed float 3, the float is loaded on one side to allow of a long lever arm and consequently a large discharge opening 24 to be used. The lever is hinged at one end to a fulcrum support 7 carried by the valve bushing 5 and at the other end to a hinge 25 riveted to the float. The valve 4 is loosely mounted on a member 26 of the lever by means of a pin 18. In the operation of the trap, the valve is normally closed by the steam pressure in the trap. When the condensate has risen in the float to a predetermined level, its buoyancy is removed and the float sinks. An air vent is provided in the top of the float.
