Abstract

392,821. Cardboard boxes. SHAPIRO, D. H., 353, Addington Avenue, Montreal, Canada. Oct. 17, 1932, No. 29040. [Class 18.] A carrying-case comprises two sections each with a top wall formed with a slot therein, these walls being adapted to be arranged in super-imposed relation, a handle member connected to one half of the case only passing through the slots so that portions integral with the handle member extend across the slots to distribute the carrying strain evenly over the lower surface of the lower top wall. The box is made from a blank with side wall portions 1, 2 and bottom 3, the side wall 1 having end-wall sections 4 and a top wall section 6. Suitably creased and slit portions 7, 8, 9 connect the sections 4, 6 to close and reinforce the corners when the sections 4, 6 are folded up at right-angles to the wall 1. The wall 2 has similar side flaps 15 and top wall 16 connected b'y corner reinforcements 21, 22, 23. When the half of the case has been erected the flap 20 is folded down on to the top wall 16 and secured, thus securing the portions 23 in place. Corner members 18, 19 connect this portion of the case with the bottom 3. The top wall section 6 has an extension 11, integral with which are the handle members 12, 13 and a strip 14. The handle sections 12, 13 are folded together, and the extension 11 folded inwardly on to the inner surface of the wall 6 so that the flap 14 lies between the portions 6, 11 and the handle members extend through the slot 10. The flaps 12c, 13d which are cut out to form the hand holes of the handle then extend across the slot 10 and with the extension 11, and strip 14 ensure that the carrying strain is evenly .distributed over the top wall section 6. When the case is closed the two halves are folded one into the other and the handle member is inserted through the slot 17.
