Abstract
392,467. Cylinder papermaking machines. MARX, R. J., 133, Finsbury Pavement, London, and KUHN, A. D. J., Bad Liebenwerda, Saxony, Germany. Dec. 2, 1932, No. 34126. [Class 96.] Machines for making paper and board, wherein the cylinder is partially immersed in stock in the vat, have an adjustable inlet slit whereby stock under pressure is fed directly on to the cylinder in the direction of its rotation at or in front of the position where the cylinder dips into the stock. Pulp from a chest 1, Fig. 1, having an overflow 4 passes between a gate 7 slidably adjusted by a gear 6 &c. and a slide 10 adjusted by a rack 9 and pinion 8 and attached to an apron 11 to promote turbulence and crossing of the fibres ; an overflow 16 which may be in parts of different heights or angles being also adjusted by a rack 15 and pinion 14. In various modifications, the gate is pivoted or wedge-shaped, and a float in a compartment 27 actuates through rods &c. a valve controlling the supply to the chest in accordance with the slowness of the pulp ; the chest is connected by piping to the vat inlet for single or multi-cylinder machines and the overflow gate 16 is pivoted ; the inlet gate is on a pivoted arm and is concave or convex, 52, Fig. 8, to the direction of flow ; a float in the chest controls the supply. The overflow gate 57, Fig. 8, may be pivoted to the slide 55 and may carry at its other end a roll for packing or preliminary couching, or such a roll may be connected to a flat slide. The cylinder is run at high speed, which avoids deposition of pulp between the cylinder and the vat walls.
