[Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] A metal-shaping machine has a box-like body A filled up to a desired level with oil which is splashed by fast running gear wheels E dipping into the oil, on to the remaining wheels M, N, O, P of the variable-speed gear, on to their shaft bearings, and on to the crank G and pitman H. Oil collecting in a basin g<1> in the crank block g is led by passages g<2> to guides h on the pitman, in which the block g slides. The shaft bearings of the variable-speed gear are covered by oil-tight caps or plates, and a packing or stuffing box is provided where the driving shaft e passes through the body A. A pelton wheel may be arranged on the shaft e to throw up a supplementary amount of oil. The oil level is observed through a window D.
