Abstract

392,121. Glass manufacture. PREYER, W. A., 32A, Delftweg, Rijswijk, Holland. Dec. 24, 1932, No. 36566. Convention date, Nov. 23. Addition to 382,160. [Class 56.] Relates to the method, described in the parent Specification, of making a glass tile which has one surface coated with sand. According to the present invention, the tile is made by pressing, preheated sand is then applied to the back of the tile, and the sand-covered surface is subjected to a relatively short, intensive heating to cause some of the sand to adhere to the glass. In forming the tile, the back is impressed with a regular grid-like pattern with raised intersecting ribs. The sand, immediately it has been spread over the figured surface, is subjected to the heat of an oxyhydrogen or other high-temperature gas flame for a short time. The heat of the flame causes some of the sand to adhere to the glass while the pressure of the gas blows away the excess of sand.
