[Class 135.] A thermostat in which the axis of the thermal element is arranged at right angles to that of the valve has a wedge-shaped transmitting member 42 arranged between a pair of corresponding members 19, 18 one operated by the thermal element, the other by the temperature setting adjustment. The valve member 7, which has a byepass port 13 is housed in the shorter limb of aT-shaped casing 5 and is pressed towards its seat 12 by a spring 10, which also acts to hold a strainer 16 in position. The valve spindle 8 is guided in a partition 9 and engages a stem 44 on a member 43 resting on the block 42. The parts 42, 43 engage tapered slots 41 formed in the cylindrical abutments 18, 19. The adjusting spindle 27 has a threaded part engaging a socket in the abutment 18 and is held against longitudinal movement by a collar 26 engaging the bottom of a stuffing-box 28 and by a flange 36 on a cap secured to the spindle engaging the outside of the casing. A calibrated dial 34 co-operating with a projection 39 and a manipulating handle 37 are secured to the flange 36. The parts 34, 36, 37 may have interfitting recesses and projections to facilitate assembly. Specification 370,125 is referred to.
