Abstract

391,310. Vacuum cleaners. HOOVER, Ltd., Perivale, Greenford, Middlesex.-( Hoover Co.; North Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 27, 1932, No. 12060. [Class 8 (i).] The suction hood 1, or a nozzle 29 or secondary air tunnel 26 fixed within the hood, is provided with positively vibrated lips 10 which penetrate and direct air into the pile of the carpet &c. being cleaned. The lips comprise sheet metal strips secured to rods pivoted in the hood. Toe pieces fixed to the rods engage a recess in a shaft 18 reciprocated by the fan motor. Fabric strips 12 prevent air leakage between the lips 10 and hood &c. carrying them. When air enters the hood through an inner tunnel 26 the lips 28 of the hood are relatively wide to form an air seal with the carpet &c.
