Abstract
391,268. Grinding cylinder bores. HUDSON, H. J. J., 15, Mayfield Place, Eastbourne. Jan. 23, 1932, No. 2099. [Class 60.] In a machine for internal cylinder grinding, the grinding - wheel E is mounted on a shaft e rotated by gears e<1> from a shaft F driven by an electromotor B<1>. The shaft F is housed within a hollow shaft B carrying a grinding- head D in which is mounted a bearing part d for the shaft e. The head is rotated by gearing b2. The shaft B is axially moved by rods h<1> of pressure cylinders G attached to a crosshead H on the shaft B. In use, a cylinder to be ground is centred by a wedge device, Fig. 5 (not shown), a screw d<1> adjusted to vary the eccentricity of the shaft e and final adjustment is made by a trueing wheel. The motor B<1> rotates the wheel E at high speed, the gearing b<2> slowly rotates the port d with a planetary motion and the pressure cylinders G cause axial reciprocation of the shaft B and grinding wheel. In a modification the shaft e is driven by a flexible shaft.
