The bearing collars f), and 9 are adapted to be adjusted circumferentially when the nuts ll'gare loosened through the medium of a wrench adapted to be inserted in the wrench receiving openings 9, of the adjusting collar 9", and the collars are provided with eccentric openings to receive and contain the lower end of the tool carrying driving shaft 12, and the upper .end 'of the shaft bearing sleeve 9, the latter being secured in. the adjustable collar 9", by means of the retaining nut 13,-thre:fi ded on the up- .per end of the shaft carrying sleeve 9.,
By reason of the eccentric location of the tool carrying drivingshaft 12, in the collars 9 and 9*, it is apparentthat the shaftl2, may be readily adjusted so as to hold the I grinding wheel or element 3, in contact with the inner surface of the cylinder and to a fixed distance from the center-thereof and as the bearing support or sleeve 6, is revolved through the medium of the gear wheel 6, and the actuating mechanism hereinafter described, such grinding tool or ele-. .ment 3, will travel bodily in a circular path entiresurface so as to efl'ectively grind the of the object being operated upon.

The gear wheel 18, is provided with a key adapted to operate in a key-way 16, of the shaft 16. The, shaft 1-6, may be provided with a bevel-gear 19,:meshing with a-second bevelgear 20, on the motor shaft, ahd as, a means of transmltting'motionito the gear wheel 6*,

It will also be apparent that by reversipg the motor the reciprocation of the parts will be correspoi' dingly reversed and it will' be seenithat an in'iproved machine of. great strength and rigidityin which the bearings may be readil v adjusted, is produced.

A machine for grindingcylinders, com.- prising a stationary support, a carriage vertically movable therein,' a rotatively mounted geared bearing support in said. carriage, a tool carrying driving shaft, a shaft carrying bearing sleeve cccentrically and adj ustably mounted in said geared bearing support andprovided with hone-shaped split bearing ci')llars, means for expanding the latter, and means for simultaneously moving said carriage and driving said driving shaft and said geared liieari'ng support whereby said driving shaft given a combined vertical and planetary motion.

In a machine for grinding cylinders, a stationary support, a vertically mm'abl'e carriage therein, a two-part geared bearing sleeve removably mounted in said carriage, a tool carrying driving shaft provided with eccentric imaringicollars removably and adjustably mounted in said geared bearing sleeve, and driving mechanism operatively conriected to said carriage driving shaft, and geared support whereby said grinding whee carrying shaft is given a gy'ratory motion.

In a machine for grinding cylinders, a shaft carrying bearing sleeve provided with eccentrically arranged bearing collars having cone-shaped split portions, one of said collars being removable and adjustable on said shaft carrying bearing sleeve, and a connecting rod provided at its ends with tapered shoulder portions extending through and connected to said cone-shaped splitportidns, and adjusting nuts on the ends of said "rod whereby to expand said-split portions when said nuts are drawn: toward said tapered shoulder portions. y

In a machine for grinding cylinders, the combination with a two-part geared bearing sleeve having bearing openings ter- -slecve and provided with niinating in cone-shaped shoulders and also provided. with annul ir bearing portions; of a two-part shaft carrying hearing sleeve having collars mounted in said bearing openings and provided with cone-shaped shoulders coiiperating with said first mentioned cone-shaped slumlders, and means for connecting and adjusting said cdllars whereby to adjust sail two-part geared hearing sleeve and said annular bearing portions relativeto each othel 7.
