Abstract

Azo dyes.--Varnishes having a basis of nitro- or acetylcellulose are coloured yellow by dissolving in the varnish an azo dye obtainable by combining an o-nitro-diazo compound of the benzene series containing no free carboxylic or sulphonic group, with an acetoacetic ester. According to examples (1) the azo dye from 1-methyl-3-nitro-4-aminobenzene and acetoacetic ester is incorporated in a varnish consisting of collodion wool, butanol, butyl acetate, ethanol and triphenylphosphate, and (2) the dye from 1-chloro-3-nitro-4-aminobenzene and acetoacetic ester is incorporated in a varnish containing acetyl cellulose, ethyl acetate, acetone, triphenylphosphate, and ethyl formate.
