Abstract

The invention comprises dyes obtainable by condensing naphthazarin intermediate, i.e. 5-amino - 8 - hydroxy - 1 : 4 - naphthoquinone - 1 - imine, with an aminobenzene containing a hydroxyalkyl group as a nuclear substituent, preferably in excess of 1.5-3 mols. In examples, naphthazarin intermediate is heated in acetic acid in presence of sodium acetate with m - amino - benzyl alcohol or with m - amino - phenyl methyl carbinol. Dyeing examples are given, in which the products give bluish-red shades on cellulose acetate. Other aminobenzenes specified are 2-methyl-5-amino-benzyl alcohol, 4 - methyl - 3 - amino - benzyl alcohol, 2 - methoxy - 5 - amino - benzyl alcohol, 4 - methylol - 5 - amino - benzyl alcohol, p - amino-phenyl ethyl alcohol.
