Abstract

The Specification, which does not permit of satisfactory abridgment, appears to comprise a method of producing a solid fertilizer having a basis of colloidal carbon by the electrolysis of a solution of a basic salt, e.g. sodium carbonate or potash, of liquors containing ammonia, carbonic acid and organic substances such as humic acid or liquid manure or of ammoniacal liquors obtained from the distillation of lignite, peat, &c. A diaphragm composed of a finely ground mixture of natural phosphates with such material as cinders, silicates, potassium felspar, straw or sawdust and an anode of carbon, e.g. graphite or retort carbon are used. The electrolysis is carried out in an iron vat which serves as the cathode and under such conditions as to realize a strong production of colloidal carbon. After the electrolysis the diaphragm material containing colloidal carbon is removed, dried, and used as a fertilizer.
