Abstract

390,199. Liquid resistances. HERMSDORF-SCHOMBURG-ISOLATOREN GES., Hermsdorf, Thuringia, Germany. Sept. 29, 1931, No. 27104. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1930. [Class 37.] A method of manufacturing a liquid resistance comprises forming a pipe of ceramic material by means of a press and winding it so that adjacent convolutions contact with one another to form a continuous conduit which is then baked, provided with joints for making connection thereto and filled with water which is kept in circulation. The ceramic conduit may be wound in a prismatic or cylindrical helix and the cross section of the conduit may be square, circular or square with rounded corners. Each conduit may contain one or more passages Fig. 9, which may be arranged concentrically or coaxially and subsequently connected in series or parallel. Alternatively the conduits may be formed with skirts, Fig. 12, so that moisture falls clear of the surfaces of the lower convolutions of the helix. The conduits may be wound in conical or double helical form or they may be wound singly or in pairs in convolutions on a flat base. A water inlet and electrode, Fig. 15, comprises a non-corrodible tube 12 soldered at 14 to a washer 13 which is pressed on to a washer 15 on an extension 8 of the conduit 1 by means of a cap 11 which screws on to a metal ring 9 cemented at 10 to the ceramic material 8. A jet for a pipe line press, Fig. 16, comprises a core 16 arranged longitudinally in the jet 17 of the mouthpiece, both parts being slightly bent to facilitate the formation of helical windings. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 disclosed an arrangement in which sections of pipe were connected in series. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
