Abstract
388,636. Solidifying liquids by cooling. BORGEN, H., Danesgarth, Asbley Road, Hale, Cheshire, and WADSWORTH, G. W., Pendennis, Church Road, Urmston, Lancashire. June 18, 1932, No. 17286. [Class 29.] In apparatus for cooling, beating, and kneading margarine emulsion of the kind described in Specifications 166,648 and 316,481, [both in Class 29, Cooling &c.], the uniformity of the product is maintained constant by utilizing pressure variations in the inlet pipe of the emulsion to control the rate of flow of the cooling medium. The pipe a<1> through which the emulsion is fed to the drum d, and the outlet pipe c for the cooling medium, are fitted with casings a, b containing flexible diaphragms e, f respectively, the covers a<111>, b<11> of the casings being provided with ports ell, f<1> connected by a conduit g containing oil or other fluid. The passage of cooling medium through the pipe c is controlled by a valve b<111> mounted on the stem k of a member k<1> bearing against the diaphragm f, the valve being loaded by an adjustable spring h. In operation, a fall in temperature of the emulsion or of the cooling medium causes an increase in pressure in the emulsion which deflects the diaphragm e, hence the diaphragm f, so that the valve b<111> is operated to restrict the outlet of the cooling medium.
