Abstract

388,414. Protective cut-out systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and WILSON, W., c/o General Electric Co., Witton, Birmingham. July 15, 1931, No. 20324. [Class 38 (v).] A normally balanced threephase supply system or apparatus is isolated on fault by the action of one or more mechanically biased relays each of which is acted on differentially by the current of two of the phases. The relays may have time-delay features. As shown, the current transformer 15 in the phase 1 supplies the restraining winding 14 of a balanced-arm relay having a displaced fulcrum to afford the bias and an adjustable weight 11 to give variable restraint. The same transformer also supplies, in series with the restraining winding 14 of relay 4, the operating winding 13 of relay 5. The current transformer 16 similarly supplies the restraining and operating windings of relays 5, and 6 and the transformer 17 supplies the windings of 6 and 4. ' With a predetermined degree of unbalance between the phases, one or more of the relays closes contacts 10 to trip the main circuit-breakers. Induction type relays may be used instead of balanced-arm relays the two shaded pole electromagnets carrying the operating and restraining windings being disposed at unequal distances from the spindle.
