388,282. Food preparations. YEASTIES PRODUCTS, Inc., Irwin, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Spohn, R. C. ; 50, West 67th Street, New York, and Luke, C. E. ; Irwin, Pennsylvania, both in U.S.A.) July 1, 1932, No. 18700. Convention date, Oct. 29, 1931. [Class 49.] In preparing a toasted ready-to-eat cereal food of the kind which has been toasted to a brittle state from the conversion of starches into dextrines and sugars, a substance containing B vitamins, and which may also contain vitamin D, is added after the toasting while keeping the food at a temperature below that at which these vitamins are destroved. The substance added may be yeast which may first be irradiated to give vitamin D. The cereal may be fed from a hopper 5 into the treatment chamber 10 where it meets a fine spray of yeast solution supplied by nozzles 9, after which it is removed by a conveyer 8. Gas jets 15, steam coils or other heating means are provided under the upper run of the conveyer to dry the treated cereal, the drying temperature being 74-120‹ F. The cereal next falls on an inspection belt 20 from which it passes to packing machines. The drying may be effected in a separate chamber from the spraying.
