388,084. Reproducing optical soundrecords. RYLAND, H. S., 97, Bushey Green, Catford, London, and CHAMPION, A., 13, Rochester Avenue, Bromley, Kent. July 23, 1931, No. 21035. [Class 40 (ii).] In apparatus for reproducing sound from translucent or opaque photographic records, the light source and that part of the record in the gate are arranged at conjugate foci of a reflector by which light from the source is reflected on to the record, and the light from the record is directed by a high aperture lens system on to a light-sensitive cell in front of which a slit may be provided. Fig. 4 shows an arrangement in which light from a source d is reflected by a reflector b and deflected by a prism l on to the film e passing through a gate, the light and gate being at equivalent conjugate foci of the reflector. The beam passing the film is directed by a .high aperture lens system c on to a slit i provided between two plates j in front of a light-sensitive cell/. Fig. 5 shows the arrangement when the record is opaque and operates to reflect the beam through the lens system to the cell. The reflector may be elliptical.
