Abstract
388,027. Explosives. SCOTT, A. C., Davington House, Faversham, Kent. Aug. 14, 1931, No. 23001. [Class 9 (ii).] Potassium chlorate and potassium nitrate are mixed with a limited quantity of water, heated until the potassium nitrate is liquefied, granulated, and dried for subsequent impregnation with kerosene, nitrobenzol, or ortho-nitrotoluol, or mixtures of these to form an explosive. Preferably, 90 parts of potassium chlorate and 10 parts of potassium nitrate are first mixed dry and heated to about 120-130‹ F., and 10 per cent of water heated to about 140-160‹ F. is then added and the mixing continued. The moist warm mixture is then rubbed over a sieve having three or four apertures to the lineal inch, and the grains thus formed are placed on iron trays and dried in a steam-heated oven, after which they are sorted according to size and packed for storage.
