Abstract
387,407. Ball or tube mills. VICKERSARMSTRONGS, Ltd. and PARKER, L. D., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster. Aug. 27, 1931, No. 24164. [Class 59.] The material to be ground is passed through a cascading chamber which forms part of the mill and in which the material is cascaded in a current of air which conveys the finer material from the cascading chamber, the coarser material being passed through slots in the wall of the chamber and are moved in the direction of the air current to a grinding chamber. The cascading may be effected subsequent to treatment in a preliminary grinding chamber or the last of two or more preliminary grinding chambers. Material is fed through a hollow trunnion C<1> to a preliminary grinding chamber C and passes through holes A<3> to a cascading chamber A provided with lifting vanes A<4>, the fines being drawn off through a pipe B<1> into a sifting chamber D connected by a pipe G, having a telescopic end G<1>, with a fan F. The coarse material in the chamber A passes through holes A<5> into an annular compartment A<7> from which it is conveyed by helical blades A<8> and lifter arms A<10> through holes A<9> into a grinding chamber B. From the chamber B the ground material passes through holes B<6> into a chamber M and passes out through holes M<1> into an annular chamber O from which it is removed by helical blades O<1> and lifter arms O<2> to the finishing chamber H. The fine material from the chamber A passes through the pipe B<1> and is thrown out by vanes B<4> into the chamber D, the fine material being carried off through the pipe G<1> and the coarse material being conveyed through slots D<2> to the chamber O and thence to the finishing chamber H. The material from the finishing chamber H passes through slots H<1> to a chamber H<3> and thence through hollow trunnion J, that may be provided with helicalblades, to a hopper K<1>. The material drawn off through the pipe G passes to a dust collector and thence to an outlet K. A screening device K<3> may be provided. Cooling water may be supplied by a pipe R<2> and after passing through water jackets R, R<1> be discharged through a pipe R<3>. Specifications 387,411 and 387,412 are referred to.
