[Class 68 (ii).] Cribbing-structures for soil-retaining walls, as in road and railway construction, consist of members of hollow cross section, the walls and top being formed of one sheet of metal, with a transverse member connecting the bottom edges of the walls. Fig. 1 shows a soil-retaining wall comprising sheetmetal stretcher members 40 and header members 50, the side walls of which have depressed panels 40a, 50a ; similar depressions may be formed in the top walls. The cross section of each member may be a closed rectangle, but preferably it is open at the bottom as shown, the sides being connected by stiffeners such as 90, Fig. 9. The end of each member is reinforced by plates such as 60, which may be corrugated, and also by transverse plates 80. The exposed ends of the headers are closed by caps 100, Fig. 1, with connecting lugs 101, the spaces between the stretchers are closed by trough-like panels, and flanged triangular members are used to fill in the angles formed by a stepped series of members. Extensions of the stiffeners 60 &c. may be used for connecting various members, being inserted into apertures 40g, Fig. 9. Obtuse angles may be formed in the walls by making these apertures wider.
