[Class 40 (iii).] Single-current signals, such as audio-frequency signals, are converted into doublecurrent signals by means of a valve so arranged that spacing current is cut off as soon as marking current is received. During spaces, current flows in the direction is through the winding M of apparatus such as the input magnet. of a printing telegraph. When, however, audio-frequency marking signals are received through transformer. T1, valve V, and copper-oxide rectifier RE, current flows in the direction im through the rectifier RE, and the potential-drop in the grid-biasing resistance R cuts off the spacing current through valve V1. The shape of the output signal may be controlled by means of impedances in series or parallel with the winding M or resistance R.
