Abstract

422,468. Wireless signalling. BELL, L. H. BAINBRIDGE-, and NAISMITH, R., Radio Research Station, Slough, Buckinghamshire. June 9, 1933, Nos. 16599/33 and 15967 /34. Drawings to Specification. [Class 40 (v)] The effects of fading are limited by causing a transmitter to send out at intervals, pulses of energy, the duration of the pulses and the duration of the intervals being determined by the lengths of the several paths over which the energy travels to the receiver, and by combining at the receiver the energy received over the several paths. The receiver has its alternating current circuits arranged to recover from one echo before the next arrives and the output after rectification is applied to a condensershunted resistance which circuit is of sufficiently long time-constant to integrate the ground-ray signal and all the echoes from a particular pulse or a plurality of pulses and their echoes to provide a single element constituting the smallest unit of the signalling system used. An interrupter may be added to the receiver whose rate of operation corresponds to the rate of reception of the echoes and connects the integrating circuit only during the reception of each pulse and its echoes.
