Abstract

386,622. Damped resilient drives. FIAT SOC. ANON., 250, Via Nizza, Turin, Italy. April 13, 1931, No. 10897. Convention date, April 11, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 80 (ii).] A coupling, particularly for a crank-shaft airscrew drive, for obviating the effects of a temporary increase in torque, or of torsional oscillations, comprises the combination with resilient drive-transmitting members of a friction damper arranged in parallel therewith. A crank shaft arranged to drive a pinion 7, has mounted on it a flanged member 2, to which is bolted an inner flange 6, each flange carrying inwardly projecting teeth 4, 4<1>, between which are arranged teeth 9 on a disc 8 drivingly connected through a claw coupling 7a with the pinion 7. Between adjacent rows of teeth are two rows of tangential helical springs 12, under an initial tension which is set by the load and the engine power, the springs being mounted on extensions 11 of blocks 10, having convex cylindrical ends seating on, and completely embraced in the axial direction, by the complementary formed teeth 4, 4<1> and 9. The extensions 11 form movement-limiting stops. The parallel friction damper comprises discs 13 splined alternately to the driving member 2 and the driven member 8, and arranged in a recess between the springs 11 and the driving- shaft. Axial pressure is supplied by helical springs 15. The seatings of the blocks 10 are lubricated by oil thrown out centrifugally from the coupling. The pinion 7 drives a propeller shaft 7<11> through a gear wheel 7<1>.
