Abstract
386,595. High-tension switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Allgemeine Electricitats-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl- Ufer, Berlin.) Aug. 31, 1932, No. 24314. [Class 38 (v).] The explosion pots of high-tension switches in which a conducting liquid, for example water, is used and the movable contact is withdrawable into the open air are adapted for outdoor use and the overall height reduced by mounting the pot a between two pillar . insulators d<1>, d<2> arranged on a common base plate e, the axes of the insulators being substantially parallel to that of the pot. As shown for one phase of a three-phase switch, the metal pot lined with insulation t and provided with a partition u below the level of the water is formed with ears b<1>, b<2> by which it is secured to hollow metal pillars c<1>, c<2> mounted between upper and lower insulators h<1>, h<2>, d<1>, d<2>. The actuating mechanism m, n is located in a container i which serves as a yoke bridging the insulators h<1>, h<2> and the insulated rod o extends through one of the pillars to a bell-crank lever g and break spring f. One of the hollow metal sections c<2> is filled with water r and communicates, through a pipe v having an extension w which serves as a level indicator, with the pot so that when some of the liquid in the pot is used up in the switching operation air is admitted to the storage chamber and water flows therefrom to restore the level in the pot.
