Abstract
386,446. Fluid - pressure brakes. GRESHAM, H. E. and GRESHAM, J. N., Ordsall Lane, Salford, Manchester. Jan. 25, 1932, No. 2277. [Class 103 (i).] In vacuumbrake systems provided with a main and an auxiliary trainpipe both adapted to be exhausted by an ejector, and d connected respectively to the chambers of the brake cylinders below and above the pistons and in which also a valve is provided adapted to admit air to the auxiliary train-pipe connected to the upper cylinder chambers for effecting a rapid release of the brakes, means are provided, operated when this valve is opened, adapted to cut off communication between the ejector and the auxiliary train-pipe so that air thus admitted does not retard the exhaustion of the main train-pipe. In Fig. 1, a valve a is connected to the usual release valve b and is seated to cut off communication between the auxiliary train-pipe e and the space c connected through the non-return valve d with the ejector when the valve b is lifted by the lever g to admit air to the pipe e. In a modification the lever g has an extension which engages the extension of the stem of the valve d to hold this valve in the seated position when the valve b is opened.
